Partition Image is a Linux/UNIX utility which saves partitions in many formats (ext2/ext3, reiser3, FAT16/32, HPFS, JFS, XFS, UFS, HFS) to an image file. The image file can be compressed in the GNU zip or bzip2 formats to save disk space, and split into multiple files Partition Image will only copy the data from the used portions of a partition and can work with large, very full partitions.
NOTE: If you want to use the daemon, you need to add its user like this:
  # useradd -c "Partition Image daemon" -g root -u 77 -d /tmp -s /bin/false partimag
And then change your configuration files permissions:
  # chown partimag:root /etc/partimaged
  # chown partimag:root /etc/partimaged/partimagedusers
  # chown partimag:root /var/spool/partimaged
