Slackware 12.2 Released!

Well, just before the holidays we could celebrate also the new release of Slackware 12.2. It includes new kernel (2.6.27.7), updated X server, upgraded Xfce and KDE, simplified wired and wireless networking and many more.

My first packages for 12.2 will become available in early 2009, since the holiday season is for holidays after all ;-)

Back in business

For some time I was unable to build packages not only that I'm beening very bussy all this year, but also because I didn't have machine on which to build packages. I'm still being bussy, but now I have what I need - a new machine with VMWare Server hosting all versions of Slackware, for which I build packages. This will also allow me to react fast when new Slackware release gets out.

I'll continue support Slackware 11 from some more time (probably to the end of the year), but my primary goal now is to update my Slackware 12 repository and to create my new Slackware 12.1 repository. At fist I'll start by rebuilding all my current Slackware 12 packages. Keep tuned for them.

Enough talking - let’s get started. You can find lots of new and updated packages in the following days and in future. Enjoy!

Slackware 12.1 Released!

Today Patrick Volkerding announced the availability of Slackware 12.1. The latest release brings the following improvements and new features:

  • only 2.6 kernels are supported
  • better support for RAID, LVM and cryptsetup
  • network capable installer (FTP and HTTP in addition to NFS)
  • Xfce 4.4.2
  • KDE 3.5.9
  • and many more software updates

I have not experienced problems using any of the 12.0 packages on the site with Slackware 12.1, but please report problems, so I could rebuild. Very soon, 12.1 packages will pop up on the site.

Over 200 supported packages

These days the supported packages on the site got over 200. This is an important milestone for Slackpack. This should prove my intentions to build good and useful packages and most importantly supported ones. What does it mean, "supported"? It means that the programs build in the packages are monitored for new releases and security issues and rebuilds are offered as soon as possible. It also means that the packages are rebuild if it is not build properly or if it doesn't work.
